Incredible what bullshit Jimmy is still able to spout! Love it. My garden actually did quite well considering that on April 14, when I returned froma trip to Italy and NY there was nothing there but an overgrown fairly steep hillside. A Korican built redwood retaining wall and many loads of purchased earth later, we are still eating 5 varieties of tomatoes, swiss chard, had lettuce, ONE green pepper, the occasional strawberry and many green peas. Not too bad for the first attempt on this property. Love the web site and will plug in more often now that I have connected. Teddy send more info on the contest as I am hot to win some homegrown! Perhaps someone remodeled the house I built after I left and maybe this is the horrible result. Maybe this is Larry's house seen from the path by the water ditch, but I dont remember the path to it in this manner. Jimmy if lyou have a laptop or if you get Larry to a computer maybe he will recognize it. I have a picture or two of the house I built and will look for it to see if it bears any resemblance to what you have. I may send it to you, Teddy, and have you post it. I played it a few times standing on the bridge behind the old kitchen (where we used to park "the beast"). I remember one time I was really playing with abandon and suddenly I felt like I was being watched by "bigfoot". Weird. Anyway, I found an address for Mary and put it on the SECRET GARDEN page (for privacy). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM Peter...................Jan 26, 1999, 18:29 (EST) The mention of Mary Gunther and her former husband (name escapes) brought to mind a great story. They were visiting in the early days of SR and Larry and I took him along to a meeting of the Rotary club in Grant's Pass. We had accepted an invitation to talk there after there had been some trouble between Dep. Sherrif Metcalf and some Takilma Hippies. We took gunther along because he was teaching sociology or some such at Reed College and looked respectable (no long hair etc.). We thought he would give us some credibility. At any rate we get to the Motel where the meeting was to be held and are up on a raised platform to eat lunmch. After lunch they all get up an pledge allegiance to the flag. Here the three of us are facing these Grants Pass Rotarians in their suits and ties and thoulgh we are standing we do not have our hands over our hearts and are conspicuosly silent. Of course the first angry question to us is: why did you not pledge allegiance? Gunther gives a very political reason related to Vietnam etc., Larry gives avery Hippie dropped out answer ( as I remember it). I tell the following story:"When I was twelve years old and before I came to this country after having survived the horrors of WWII I had to appear before a United States Immigration official who had me swear allegiance to the United States. I did that then, and was and am proud of it. I am also a man of my word and do not think I constantlly have to repeat my allegiance. I did it once and, since I am an honorable man, that should be enough!" It totally deflated them and we went on to a much more friendly and reasonable question and answer session. Mary Gunther became very much involved in the Native American movement in later years. Have no idea where she is or why and how her name has come up. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM Peter...................Feb 9, 1999, 15:17 (EST) forgot to put in the name. I have the map of SR which Stan did. It's big and on old paper, would be expensive to photocopy at Kinkos and I don't think it would scan too well. I'm going to look into scan ability etc. more when I get back from New Mexico in March. Going to Taos and will maybe see Larry The Fluff! As far as the photo of me and Leah--please do not post! I don't want it on the Net under any circumstances. Thanks. I think the naked photos of the women in the river from the reunion should also be taken off. Just my humble opinion. Nina -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM Teddy...................Feb 14, 1999, 18:11 (EST) Nina That's great!
