Webmister is the Webmeister, and there's only one--Teddy. OS (Oliver Stone) is me, and I directed, among others: Nixon (1995) Natural Born Killers (1994) Heaven & Earth (1993) JFK (1991) The Doors (1991) Born on the Fourth of July (1989) Talk Radio (1988) Wall Street (1987) Platoon (1986)....Don't know who "oliver stoned" is, and don't care, as long as they have something good to say. If someone does something good anonymously, why insist on knowing who they are? Sunnyridge was full of "strangers"--some became family. You're too paranoid!. Better stop smokin' that crazy for a while....

Of course. It was Bruce and Mike Menge who were from the Fanatic Family, but definitely were part of Sunnyridge. I remember Bruce very well as I had a few very stoned out experiences with him. I have described the bathtub scene elsewhere. At one point, though we knew him to be a speed freak and thief, we gave him money for a food run to SF. At an earlier time he tried to sell me a car that had no papers. At various times he consulted me on legal matters. The kids loved him which meant he was a good guy. The children's attitude towards an adult was often used by me as a gauge of acceptability.

Ali.... The Fanatic Fam. was a group / commune of sorts, of freakz that were definitely over the edge, life is a party bunch.... Lots of psychedelics on a daily basis.... Headed up by Capt. Jim & Maureen <@ that time>.... Was quite a motley crew and the name F.F. had to do with the "800" floor of the San Francisco Justice Building, mental ward..... Quite a few mwmberz had cycled through this facility, or so I was told back then.... They had a device called the FLASH Machine in the front yard.... It consisted of a tire swing hung from a cable or heavy rope that was the initiation to the family and was a must do for all new members. The elders would wind up the swing as far as humanly possible and then let it rip.... If U managed to survive the ride you were ordained a member of the Fanatic Family... Believe me, some folks did not want anything to do with the family after that ride.... The crazier ones stayed on...... Let me also mentiom that this contraption couldn't be stopped until it wound down, at which point if someone had to intervine on your behalf, U were not Family material..... A nice bunch really..... Oh! Did I mention SPEED..... So much for "nice folks" The property was the site of an old sawmill with several old fragile sheds converted to cabins.... Make do shelters @ best..... Regards, Mike M.

just think, if we were at sr now, we'd probably have the same relationship to all the current election wierdness as we did to watergate back then (what's watergate?). but now that we're back in the "real" world, we actually feel this stuff has meaning, which it does on one level, but on a larger scale.......?

FROM     Joel...................Dec 5, 2000, 20:42 (EST)

I remember one Christmas at Sunnyridge in particular. I had not been doing so well, my spirits were down and in my mind at least there was tension between people at the claim. I remember feeling pretty helpless about things and even talking with Barbara who tried to help me but through no fault of her own was not successful in changing my mood. Then on Christmas day I woke up and there was a covering of snow over everything. Not a lot, if I recall correctly, but enough so that it made everything look new and clean. The sudden change in conditions was enough to shake me out of my depression and actually bring me joy. You know I learned a lesson that day that I haven't forgotten. And that is that even though I don't have the power to change things very much, God does. The snow was a sign from heaven for me that God is real and that He is good. I wasn't a believer in the Christmas child yet at that time but as you all know I am now and have been for many years. The same newness and cleanness that the snow brought to Sunnyridge back on Christmas in 1971 God is able to bring just as suddenly and mysteriously into your life and mine. The one thing that is needed is faith. In the New Testament it says, "Without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him". If you haven't read the accounts of Jesus' life in the New Testament may I respectfully suggest that you read one of the four gospels this Christmas season. If you do so with an open heart and mind you may find you have more faith than you thought. God bless and Merry Christmas, albeit a little early.

FROM     C.S. Lewis...................Dec 6, 2000, 13:50 (EST)

We are stuck on the horns of the Trilemma--that Jesus was either a lunatic, a liar, or the Lord. A careful look at his life must eliminate the first two possibilities. If we then come to the conclusion that he was/is the Lord, what are we going to do with that belief?....He never taught that the truth is in us; rather, that it is in HIM....Spiritually, there are only two belief systems: that we are God, but have forgotten that, or that we are created beings who are in rebellion against our Creator. Jesus taught the second, and in the gratest love, asked us to submit to an almost inconceivably benevolent Creator. Rebellion--the refusal to submit--is the root of our problem. We want to go our own way, and usually do. And we don't do nearly as well as we could. We are strong-willed, stubborn, independent--and dead....No merely human author could have been brilliant or insightful enough to have written the Gospels. Exactly who do you think Jesus was? Why did he come? Read one of the Gospels and ask yourself that question. Tell me what you think, if you will...As the remembrance of the Incarnation approaches, it is a perfect time to think about all this. There is much much more to life than remembering the Sixties. As always, seek the truth.

The problem with the Jesus story is that it mwent through the minds of people who were both small intellectually and easily awed. The most cogent, important part of the story; i.e., that one must stand up for what is right against the forces of evil and tyranny even if it means a horrible death, has been passed over for the view that you just believe and no matter how rotten you are you are saved.

Just be a mindless proselytizer and you're groovy. He was the first hippie, lived simply, said do good spiritual works, spoke the truth, etc. This venue is too constricted to get very far into it but simply put, He made it clear that you didn't need to know Him or even say good things about Him as long as you respected God and did well by your fellow humans. Look at the parable of the sheep and the goats for verification of above statement. I could find it if I had to. I think a person is better off knowing Him, but that clearly is not a prerequisite for eternal life.

It fits all sizes, is portable, comes with its own power supply, never needs upgrading, and never wears out--in fact, it keeps the recipient from wearing out. We can fail to unwrap it, put it in the closet or attic, exchange it for some other gift, or, worst of all, refuse it. Can you accept it?

Instead of arguing over religion which seems to me to be rather fruitless, let's talk about memories of this holiday season at SR and perhaps take the discussion to the regular chat page where I'm also posting this message. I no longer celebrate Chirstmas, instead we had an amazing Chanukah party on Christmas eve with 15 pounds of potatoes worth of latkes. They were reported to be the best latkes anyone had ever tasted (thank you Mom and Babi for the recipe). We lit about 10 menorahs and ate, played music and danced the night away. The best X-mas eve ever! I do remember making decorations...popcorn strings, paper chains, snowflakes and glitter covered stockings at SR. The anticipation of X-mas was huge. The kids all lying out in the lodge in our sleeping bags playing "1,2.3 switch" and trying to stay up until the stockings were filled. We got up at the crack of dawn one year and went carolling around to all the houses to wake people up so we could open our presents.....

"To me, one of the critical pieces of forgiveness has to do with the absorbtion of pain," says Jim Donahue, president of Berkeley's Graduate Theological Union and a man who has spent his professional and spiritual life studying religion and social ethics. "You'll have to absorb some of the pain of the victim, and you live in the reality of the victim's pain, and that will always be part of your life. It's not 'I'm remorseful because I want to be let off from this [guilt].' There always has to be this kind of absorbtion of pain into oneself, and that is the burden that you live with. Even if society says, 'Okay, you're forgiven,' you will always have to live with the internalized sense that you've hurt someone...(speaking of the subject of the article) But has he taken responsibility for the particular harm he's done, or merely the generic harm? You need to put a face, an action to this forgiveness. You can't live in a generalized, abstract sense. We don't live in a generic world. Being forgiven has a lot to do with taking responsibility in a particular sense." This paragraph comes from an article in the East Bay Express about a convicted gang member who is on death row and was recently nominated for the nobel peace prize for his books for children discouraging violence. The sentiments in the quote struck me as an eloquent summing up of my feelings about Stewart. I know the discussion has moved on to other topics but frankly this is what I think about and feel when I see SIG in the chat room.

Ultimately, when we sin, we sin against God alone (see Psalm 51). Our sins have consequences in our society, and certainly we must pay the price. But when God forgives us (as a result of true repentance), we are truly forgiven. Conditional human love can't understand this; only God's love is great enough to heal us.

SIG, your response, if such it was, to Leah's reflections on foregiveness etc. is typically impersonal. I am uncomfortable with that. Thus I ask you respond more personally to some of the questions that have been raised either directly or implicitly concerning your behavior at SR. Perhaps you will prefer to address these issues in the Secret Garden or even by private communication of one sort or another with whomever inquires. Think it over then answer.

Yeah, sure wish we had some recorded music of the after dinner jams we had at Sunnyridge. If Tom Miley connected with this site, we might have the possibility. And of course, larry could send a little drum sound if he was so inclined

Hiding in religion? Mmmmmmmmm. Depends on what is really reality. Nature, more honesty in relationships, and psychadelic drugs helped make Sunnyridge quite real...but there still tons of illusion and lots of karma unresolved. Let the growth continue. Let the revelations come. Let love not be lost however. Sunnyridge is not the past. All is here and now. Geeeez, back to the philosophy again.

It saddens me to think that in trying to share Jesus with you I have somehow angered or turned you off to Him. I have tried to tell you about the lover of my soul, the friend of sinners and the one who has brought deep peace and joy into my life. I say this in all sincerity, please forgive me for not having respresented him better than I have, for I am convinced that if you were to see him as he really is you would not run away from him but straight into his arms of love. Perhaps this is not the best venue for discussing such things. I hope though that something I have said may have stirred within you a desire to know the truth about who this Jesus is. I believe you owe it to yourself to at least check it out. If so may I suggest again that you read the gospels for yourself in a modern translation Somewhere in the bible God says that "you will find me when you search for me with all your heart". So keep searching Sunnyridge and may God bless your quest.

Joel, I believe we at SR exemplified the true Jesus way more than almost any Christians I know (nothing personal). Just look at the Cristian Coalition, a bunch of right wing wackos who watched while Bush stole the election and then talked about how he was going to bring integrity to the White House.

Even if I agreed exactly with what you're saying I'd be embarrased to call myself a Christian, I'd at least have to go through a lot of disclaimers, explanations and excuses. Christians, as a whole are the most intolerant, close-minded, (forgive me for saying this and don't take it personally) shit-for-brains people in our population. They elected the theif because they don't believe a damn thing they say they believe in. Cut taxes while people are living on the street, while 45 million Americans are without health care, etc., etc., etc., Is that Christian?

In fact I am a believer, but I've learned that the best way to advance His true message is to live it and keep your mouth shut unless asked and cut all the bullshit about sinning and eternal damnation for everybody who doesn't conform to the backward anti-intellectual anti-thinking regressive traits of so called "Christians"

Forgive me once again for being so harsh, (call it the email effect) but you're talking to real people here who have feelings, know love and don't need to be lectured like wayward children. Joel, I look with a lot of fondness at the many hours we spent discussing the world hovering over the cookstove, et al. I ask you now to cut the crap and stop lecturing us.

If so, could you kick people out? I've talked to people involved with communal living situations in the past and some were left kind of soured by the experience. But it seems that you guys still keep in touch and are friends, which is pretty cool... how did you kick out creeps who would show up and hang out and mooch off of you? Just interested. To answer jim from PA re how we got rid of moochers...What do you Sunnyridgers think? I think we convinced ourselves that there were no moochers. I remember being very concerned with this question for most of the time at SR., yet I remember only one person we actually escorted off the premise... to the Salem State Mental spital, and we may have asked Mr. Clean to leave. We did ask the Revolutionary sought by the Fbi to leave, but only because he wanted to use SR as a base for his political activities and we couldn't do that. Any one else remember anything on this subject?

First weeding out process was that it was not paradise on earth. We had the Sunnyridge heavies, the Hepatitis and staff plagues, only those that truly believed in Sunnyridge stayed.
