Dear Organic Food Lovers,

President-elect Obama's recent choice for Secretary of Agriculture is a VERY BAD choice for those of us who believe in organic foods.

Tom Vilsack promotes genetically engineered crops and is not a friend to organic gardeners, but he IS a friend to the powerful Monsanto company.
http://www.motherjones.com/news/outfront/2004/01/12_401.html

I just signed this petition to try to block his confirmation. Please take a minute to do the same.

Despite a massive public outcry, including over 60,000 emails from the Organic Consumers Association, President-Elect Obama has chosen former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack to be the next Secretary of Agriculture. Similar petitions circulated on the internet by OCA's allies, including fooddemocracynow.org, Pesticide Action Network, and the Center for Food Safety have generated an additional 60,000+ supporters, making Vilsack perhaps the most controversial and unpopular Obama cabinet appointment.
Sign OCA's Petition to the US Senate Now!
While Vilsack has promoted respectable policies with respect to restraining livestock monopolies, his overall record is one of aiding and abetting Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) or factory farms and promoting genetically engineered crops and animal cloning. Equally troubling is Vilsack's support for unsustainable industrial ethanol production, which has already caused global corn and grain prices to skyrocket, literally taking food off the table for a billion people in the developing world.

The Organic Consumers Association is calling on organic consumers and all concerned citizens to join our call to action and block Vilsack's confirmation as the next Secretary of Agriculture. Please help us reach our goal of 100,000 petition signatures against Vilsack' nomination. Sign today! Your email will be sent to your Senators and the President-Elect's office.

Israel Declares A Cease-Fire Just In Time For Obama's Inauguration.

Israel's breach of the previous cease-fire, when it invaded Gaza and
killed 6 Palestinians, was also conveniently timed, in that case to
happen on election day in America, November 4th, when people all over
the world were preoccupied with more momentous matters...

Well, I couldn't be happier that we have a new, intelligent, and sincere man in the white house. I don't care what color he is, but the fact that he is SO eclectic doesn't hurt. He represents just about everything on the planet. OK, not everything, but a lot. He has more things in his background than all the other guys combined. I think he's a great man and I hope that we can find a more peaceful way of existing with him in charge. Of course, anything is better than Bush and his insane administration, but I think this administration is going to be amazing. I admit, I am an optimist. So shoot me.

Well, that petition some of us signed did not prevent Tom Vilsack from becoming Secretary of Agriculture. But it was heard!

This is an unbiased article from WIKIPEDIA: on Tom Vilsack

...Opposition to the nomination came from the Organic Consumers Association, which outlined in a November 2008 report several reasons why it believed Vilsack would be a poor choice for the position, particularly as energy and environmental reforms were a key point of the Obama campaign. Among those reasons the report cites: Vilsack has repeatedly demonstrated a preference for large industrial farms and genetically modified crops; as Iowa state governor, he originated the seed pre-emption bill in 2005, effectively blocking local communities from regulating where genetically engineered crops would be grown; additionally, Vilsack was the founder and former chair of the Governor's Biotechnology Partnership, and was named Governor of the Year by the Biotechnology Industry Organization, an industry lobbying group. The Senate confirmed Vilsack's nomination for the position by unanimous consent on January 20, 2009...

I read "Animal Vegetable Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver and realized how stupid the government policies on agriculture are. The Shift Has Hit the Fan: Welcome to the Sane Asylum
By Swami Beyondananda

The shift has hit the fan!

Humanity has shifted its karma into surpassing gear, and political climate change has come to America . Thanks to a grassroots up-wising, we the people huffed and puffed together in the same direction and the winds of change blew in a breath of fresh air. And we can all breathe easier.

The vote in November was more than a vote for a new President. It was a vote for a new precedent to overgrow the "lowest common dominator" paradigm and take a step towards government of the people, by the people, for the people where the government does our bidding, not the bidding of the highest bidder -- and where the Golden Rule can finally overrule the rule of gold. In the short term, the up-wising has been successful, and the American Evolution has begun. The first big shots have been fired, and we are on the road to recovering from an eight-year bout with Mad Cowboy Disease and Electile Dysfunction.

But now, if we want to heal the body politic of conditions like Deficit Inattention Disorder, Truth Decay and the deadliest one of all, an unchecked Military Industrial Complex, we must elect ourselves. Spiritually, it's time to quiet our barking dogmas and evolve past the Ten Commandments to an even greater realization the One Suggestion: "We are all in it together." Once a critical mass of us chooses to live by this credo, we can avoid the critical massacre called Armageddon, create Disarmageddon instead, and achieve fulfillment as a species -- Humanifest Destiny.

The End of the Age of Nefarious?

Every journey into the light is preceded by a dark passage, and our entry into the Age of Aquarius is no different. As predicted in the celebrated quatrain

"When the goon moves into Lincoln 's house

and stupider aligns with Mars
then greed will guide the planet
and fear obscure the stars ..."

the Age of Nefarious delayed the start of the new millennium. But now the quatrain is heading down a new track, and soular power is shining a light on the endarkened corridors of soulless power.

Just as the eight-year journey that took us from Whitewater to Blackwater was coming to an end, some overzealous Bush-bashers hurled footwear to give the departing regime one final boot. That was understandable, but unnecessary. Better we should keep our shoes on, and use them to stand together at a time when healing wounds is more important than wounding heels. Besides, without Bush there could have been no Obama. His alarming actions awakened more people than Buddha, and a body politic in a fear-induced coma miraculously regained consciousness.

And now there is a new President: Barack Hussein Obama. After eight years of insanity, we can proclaim to the world, " America has a President Hussein!"

So now, we must face another awesome truth: We are living in a world gone sane.

Welcome to the sane asylum.

Trickle Down Goes Belly Up

It's a good thing our political fates are on the upswing, as our economy has taken a sharp downturn. The house of credit cards economy based on trickle down has gone belly up, and we must face another, sadder truth. Individually and collectively, we've been suffering from Deficit Inattention Disorder, and since we were unable to do the math, we must now do the aftermath. It's a buy-o-logical fact. You cannot spend more than you have. Nature knows this. We can use no more energy than what we have in reserve. We cannot charge energy on our Ascended Master Card and repay it next lifetime.

So yes, the casino economy coming down, but there is an upside to the meltdown. There is a great opportunity in the crisis. Consider this. When the dollar hits zero, we can pay off our entire $10 trillion national debt and hardly feel it!

Meanwhile, over the past eight years we have seen the fall of reptilian entities like Enronosaurus Wrecks, and most recently a character named Madoff made off with billions. Our entire economic system has been revealed as an extraordinary ponzi scheme where ordinary people are left holding the empty bag.

Unfortunately, this is nothing new. It's the same old needy-greedy where our collective fear of not having enough -- "scare city" -- has empowered those privatizing privateers who are plundering our planet with their mining operations: that's mine, that's mine, that's mine. This mining has overmined the planet and undermined humanity. Thus, the emergency we face right now.

So, what do we do? I am glad I asked that question. We must go beyond the fear-based state of emergency, to a state of emergent seeing. That is where we emerge and see the genuine wealth that is all around us: the virtually infinite energy from Father Sun, the prolific nourishment Mother Earth brings us every season, the love we generate from our hearts, and the inventiveness of our minds. With this realization, we have a one way ticket out of scare city ... and we enter a state of a-bun-dance. That is where we get up off our assets, move our buns, face the music and dance together. In using our resources to create good goods and greater goodness, we can weave a web of mass construction that will make us all interdependently wealthy.

Heartland Security and Purple People Power

So ... how do we do this? How do we go from our habitual "every cell for itself" consciousness that has caused our current "mining disaster", to acting on the evolutionary truth that we are in reality "all cells in the body of humanity?" How do we shift from survival of the fittest to thrival of the fittingest?

First we must move from the fear-based Homeland Security to the love-based Heartland Security, and realize our one true security is in the land of the heart. While the beliefs in our head fool us all the time, the love in our heart is foolproof. When we face up to love, we can face down the fear.

What this means in practical reality is that we must step across the "red-blue" political divide that has kept us separate, and show our true colors as one purple people. Yes, we have all been wounded by polarizing politics, so let's give ourselves a purple heart, and take the next courageous step to cohere around our shared "heart core" values and become ... we, the purple.

I have a dream ... that the rednecks shall lie down with the blue necks, and we tune out the polarizing mainstream media, which is sadly a brainwashing machine stuck on spin. More than ever, we need forums not againstums, dialogue instead of debate. When the body politic stops mass-debating and chooses to have healthy, pleasurable intercourse, we will finally create a healthy brainchild together.

This February, we celebrate Abraham Lincoln's bicentennial, and our friend Richard Lederer (the anagram master known as Riddler Reacher), tells us that when we scramble the letters in "Barack Hussein Obama," we get "Abraham is back: One U.S."

You don't have to be a Barack-backer to see that instead of relying on leaders from above, the next evolutionary step is for us to become the leaders we have been waiting for. I am Lincoln . You are Lincoln . We are Lincoln . And by linkin' together, we free ourselves from slavery to the divisive beliefs in our minds, and form a more perfect union in the land of the heart.

Sure, these ideas may seem far-fetched, but we are nearer to fetching them than ever before. Remember, we are now living in a world gone sane. Change is ahead, change is afoot, and everything is changing from head to foot. Like it or not, we are destined to have heaven on earth.

Might as well get used to it.

From:     Kienda Valbracht - via email - with a little embellishment     kienda@hotmail.com     2/12/2009     9:38 A.M.

At dawn on 14th February the day dedicated to St Valentine, the patron saint of Love, the Moon in Libra enters the seventh house of relationships. And Jupiter and Mars are aligned in Aquarius in the twelfth house of spiritual transformation.

Forty years ago, the intuitive words of a song called Aquarius, brought the dawning of the new age into our collective awareness:

When the Moon is in the seventh house
and Jupiter aligns with Mars.
Then love will rule the planets
and peace will steer the stars

At dawn on 14th February the Cosmos actually embodies this perfect alignment to support our collective manifestation of love and peace and dawning of the Age of Aquarius.

The Aquarian chart of 14th February reveals an incredible concentration of cosmic influences blending with the energies of Aquarius in the twelfth house. Expansive Jupiter and energetic Mars are aligned with the higher purpose of the North Node. The presence of Chiron the wounded healer offers us the opportunity to heal the schisms that have separated us for so long. Neptune emphasizes collective humanitarian movements and the co-creation of social justice. And the presence of the radiant Sun enlightens the entire alignment.

Mercury also in the twelfth house but just beyond the cusp in Capricorn, allies with transformational Pluto to communicate and anchor the Shift throughout our global structures and institutions.

The Moon in Libra in the seventh house emphasizes harmonious real ationships.

Venus in Aries in the first house energizes and empowers dynamic co-creativity.

And whilst Saturn the great task master in opposition to Uranus the unexpected awakener is suggesting an ongoing confrontation as the dregs of the unsustainable old paradigm reluctantly give way to the untested hope of the new, their placements in Virgo and Pisces brings practical altruism and visionary inspiration to the transition.

At 7.25am on 14th February and for the 18 minutes of the alignment, you are invited, in the universal heart, to add your own intention for love and peace and to co-create the dawning of the Age of Aquarius to that of the Cosmos. In whatever way feels appropriate for you, you may choose to align with7.25am (UT) or 7.25am local time energizing a wave of intention that will surge around the Earth.

This is a true story from the WordPerfect Helpline, which was transcribed from a recording monitoring the customer care department.

Actual dialogue of a Customer Support employee.
(Now I know why they record these
conversations!):

Operator: 'Ridge Hall, computer assistance; may I help you?'
Caller: 'Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect.'
Operator: 'What sort of trouble??'
Caller: 'Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away.'
Operator: 'Went away?'
Caller: 'They disappeared'
Operator: 'Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?'
Caller: 'Nothing.'
Operator: 'Nothing??'
Caller: 'It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type.'
Operator: 'Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?'
Caller: 'How do I tell?'
Operator: 'Can you see the 'C: prompt' on the screen?'
Caller: 'What's a sea-prompt?'
Operator: 'Never mind, can you move your cursor around the screen?'
Caller: 'There isn't any cursor; I told you, it won't accept anything I type.'
Operator: 'Does your monitor have a power indicator??'
Caller: 'What's a monitor?'
Operator: 'It's the thing with the screen on
it that looks like a TV.
Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?'
Caller: 'I don't know.'
Operator: 'Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that??'
Caller: 'Yes, I think so.'
Operator: 'Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall.
Caller: 'Yes, it is.'
Operator: 'When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one? '
Caller: 'No.'
Operator: 'Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable.'
Caller: 'Okay, here it is.'
Operator: 'Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer.'
Caller: 'I can't reach.'
Operator: 'OK. Well, can you see if it is?'
Caller: 'No.'
Operator: 'Even if you maybe put your knee on> something and lean way over?'
Caller: 'Well, it's not
because I don't have the right angle -- it's because it's dark..'
Operator: 'Dark?'
Caller: 'Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window.'
Operator: 'Well, turn on the office light then.'
Caller: 'I can't.'
Operator: 'No? Why not?'
Caller: 'Because there's a power failure.'
Operator: 'A power .... A power failure? Aha.Okay, we've got it licked now.. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff that your computer came in?'
Caller: 'Well, yes, I keep them in the closet.'
Operator: 'Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it.
Then take it back to the store you bought it from.'
Caller: 'Really? Is it that bad?'
Operator: 'Yes, I'm afraid it is.'
Caller: 'Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?'
Operator: 'Tell them you're too darned stupid to own a computer*

I guess it's time for my every now and then check in. Nice to see the chat's been active. I'm a little late on the Obama victory discussion - John and I both cried when he one. I'm an optimist too, Ruby. The expectations are high, but I think (hope) things will get better over time. I'm patient. I love the guy for so many reasons. It's an added bonus to see a black family in the White House - I love to see the little girls being at home there with their friends. Isn't that cool, as Michelle O would say? I love it all.

Thanks to whomever posted the inaugural speech. After hearing it, I felt that Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind and Times They are a changing were alive and well and once again pertinent.

I like to stay in touch with what's going on in the world - but not become it. Barbara and Ruby said it so well.

A very warm welcome to the chat to Dale Michaels. I've often thought about you and your family and wondered how you were doing. I think expect for Menge and me, there aren't too many living Sunnridger's that remember your dad. Sorry to hear that he passed. Hope it was peaceful. Is your Mom still around? How is she? I remember your grandma too - a real no nonsense lady. How is George? You family, particularly you Mom, had a big effect on me. She is so warm, generous and genuine. What are you guys up to?

Those bus pictures on the Takilma page bring back memories! Mike Menge and I lived in it for a few years. First at the Michael's property behind their house, then on some other land Ed owned. It was in better shape then - Michael built the sleeping loft on top - covered in hand split cedar shakes. We fixed up the inside too - put in oak flooring (the original was gone), sanded down the paint from the brass window frames, and put in 4ft high cedar shakes for indside paneling. It was very homey - somewhere I have a picture of Michelle and Rachel visiting us there. My daughter was born in the back of the bus, with Elizabeth, 2 of here girls, Bob Hale and Flo Michaels - and of course Mike Menge. Peter and Jimmy used to come down and visit - not sure how many other Sunnyridgers remember it. It was a great home - a 1935 Greyhound bus.

Hi again all you beautiful Sunnyridge-type people.
We had another amazing and heartfelt speech from Obama last night. I for one, felt uplifted by his reassuring words. Yes, I have lost a lot of money and therefore will probably never really get to retire but hey, I remember when I didn't have a dime to my name or even a pee-can to piss in. Don't get me wrong, I am mad when I think about all the people who profitted at our loss, but they will be the ones who will have to deal with that in the long run...if karma is what I think it is. All I can do is move on, try to be the most loving person to the people who make a difference in my life and keep look forward to better, more Bush-free world.
Good to hear from Alice! And everyone else for that matter.

PS. Did Bobby Jindal sound like a SNL skit about Mr. Rogers or what? ha ha ha!

..oh and he can't read a teleprompter!

Wow, if anyone missed that speech of Obama's, I added a video of the whole thing to the bulletin board. (the bulletin board is also visible at the top of this page...check the little checkbox to "show bulletin board".)

And what was I doing during this momentous speech?
I was celebrating my 61st at an Argentine restaurant and dance performance by Israel's Batsheva.

Obama just keeps getting better. The speech was perfect and if we can only accomplish a little it will be better than going in reverse. John actually watched the whole thing with me - he hates politics and usually goes on a rant about what idiots the politicians are. I have to kick him out of the room or change the channel. Heard Bill Maher say (at a George Carlin tribute) that it's nice to have a president that can speak the English language; use a subject and a predicate and make a point.

BTW, I keep getting emails from the various liberal groups. Some of the time they're just looking for a signature on a petition or a letter to a politician. They're always asking for money. I usually sign the petitions. They're also asking me to send the email to friends. Anyone here want to receive these?

Sorry I missed the reunion too. I wasn't sure about going because of CFIDS - I was concerned that after the trip I'd spend the whole reunion in bed. But then I needed emergency surgery and the decision was made for me. I looked at the pictures - looked like a wonderful time. I will make it to the next one, somehow.

Hi Everyone--
It's nice to have all this activity on the chat line--Especially in
such a positive way--I too sat mesmerized for a whole hour--
And Ted, thanks to you for printing the speech and the rebuttal--
That Jindel has a pinched mousey looking face and made as much
sense as listening to a mouse--

It is nice hearing ftrom you Alice--
And I am sending a big THANKS to Mike Menge for
giving me a disc of all those wonderful pictures---
All I have to do is put the disc in a slot and click away--
I love it--thanks again Mike--

Here's part of an email I got from MoveOn.org - sharing it here rather than sending them email addresses - to keep you in boxes clean.

Dear MoveOn member,

Want to see what change looks like? Real change?

Well, here it is. Last week, President Obama unveiled his budgethis blueprint for Americaand it's ambitious, amazing, and unapologetically progressive. As Paul Krugman said, it will set America on a "fundamentally new course."1

President Obama called his budget "a threat to the status quo," and trust me, the status quo noticed. Oil companies, big banks and insurance companies are already mobilizing to stop it.2

Unfortunately, most folks don't realize how far-reaching and progressive the plan isthat's where we all come in.

Here are 10 really incredible things about Obama's plan. Check them out and then send them on to your friends and family so that millions of people will have the information they need to fight to make this vision a reality.
10 things you should know about Obama's plan (but probably don't)

The plan:

1. Makes a $634 billion down payment on fixing health care that will go a long way toward paying for a more efficient, more affordable health care system that covers every single American.3

2. Reduces taxes for 95% of working Americans. And if your family makes less than $250,000, your taxes won't go up one dime.4

3. Invests more than $100 billion in clean energy technology, creating millions of green jobs that can never be outsourced.5

4. Brings our troops home from Iraq on a firm timetable, finally bringing the war to a closeand freeing up almost ten billion dollars a month for domestic priorities.6

5. Reverses growing income inequality. The plan lets the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans expire and focuses on strengthening the middle class.7

6. Closes multi-billion-dollar tax loopholes for big oil companies. 8

7. Increases grants to help families pay for collegethe largest increase ever.9

8. Halves the deficit by 2013. President Obama inherited a legacy of huge deficits and an economy in shambles, but his plan brings the deficit under control as soon as the economy begins to recover.10

9. Dramatically increases funding for the SEC and the CFTCthe agencies that police Wall Street.11

10. Tells it straight. For years, budgets have used accounting tricks to hide the real costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Bush tax cuts, and too many other programs. Obama's budget gets rid of the smokescreens and lays out what America's priorities are, what they cost, and how we're going to pay for them.12

This is the change we voted for. President Obama has done his part, now we need to do ours.

Can you pass this on to your personal network and then click here to let us know how many people you told, so we can track our impact together:

http://pol.moveon.org/budget10/?id=15687-8546188-q.SuJmx&t=1

Thanks for all you do.

Daniel, Tanya, Peter, Justin and the rest of the team

P.S. Turns out there are way more than 10 amazing things in Obama's budget and we couldn't resist sharing just a few more.

1. Stops unnecessary government subsidies to big banks, health insurance companies and big agribusinesses.13,14,15

2. Expands access to early childhood education and improves schools by investing in programs that make sure every child has a qualified, strong teacher.16

3. Negotiates for better prescription drug prices using Medicaid's tremendous bargaining power.17

4. Expands access to family planning for low-income women.18

5. Caps the pollution that causes global warming, and makes polluters pay to support clean energy innovation.19

From:     barbara w.     3/2/2009     8:26 A.M.

thanks for passing that on alice..that is really clear and teling it like he meant it. love barbara w.

From:     Rita     3/2/2009     11:18 A.M.

Just an added note to Alices posting--I have been a
Move-on member for four years--They work their 'butts'
off getting the vote out which in the past two elections
made the difference for the democrats to gain power again--
And they are fun too--When a vote is in our favor, they organize
a party in every little 'cranny' in the US-

Have a great day everyone--The sun is shining in CJ town
after a night of wind and rain--

Good evening one and all!

Wow, it's definately been awhile since i've taken up valuable
chat page space! i hope each and everyone of you is doing well..

it's really nice to see so many postings..i myself have been very busy,
and doing things that haven't involved much computer time, but i was
sitting here and realized i hadn't checked in for quite awhile, and so
unfortunately for you i am now going to remedy that aggregious and
thoughtless situation!

First, i do realize that we've very optimistically moved on to a president
who's demeanor, intelligence, compassion, and overall personality makes
that previous thing whom called himself the ruler of the free world look
like a brown stain found around the edge of a foul and disgusting toilet,
but, due to a sort of nostalgic-like feeling of wistful sarcastic MB withdrawal,
i feel i must give one last "f--k you" to the all time deserver of "f--k you"
whom ever graced our planet with his disgusting self!
( if f--k you is not the phrase you'd use, feel free to replace it with one
your more comfortable with! )
Anyway, what can be said about "it" that wasn't already said 20 times..most
likely by me! i do know that as we progress on into this year, and most
likely for many years to follow, we'll be feeling the effects of "it" and
cursing his name, his cabinet, and his stupid monkey face until it becomes
a sort of mantra which will be passed on to many generations to come.
100,000 years from now, Monkeys will look back at their ancestry and
he'll be the symbol from which they gauge their evolution...

Other than that i've nothing negative to say about him.

On the other end of this spectrum, we now have a man whom no
matter what our future as a country holds, is just a good, decent man...one
whom can actually pronounce words with more than three letters without
stuttering and drooling like a trrrrogloditic halffffbreed..
Listening to Obama brings back fond memories of a time when a man
in a position as powerful as the president was required to have a certain
level of competence and ability, and it's a great pleasure and relief to
actually have a person of that stature and prominence back in the most
powerful position in the world....so good riddence to bad garbage Dubya!

By the way, the movie called "W" is very good for those of you whom
might be interested. it's directed by Oliver Stone and is definately worth
taking a gander at...

Well thank you all for allowing Mij one last MB bash!

I've been staying busy workwise as much as possible. The economic
situation is bleak at best, and the outlook isn't anymore uplifting as far
as hope goes, but knock on my head i can usually find someone needing
good ol' manuel labor! No matter how bad things are, it's still easier to
have Mij dig the ditch! Serious though, every day brings more bad
news here locally. Today Boise Cascade announced they will be closing
their doors Friday. For those of you who may remember, the town of
White City over in the Rogue Valley is where they are located, and this will
more than likely be an almost death nell to the city..now, don't get me
wrong, i'm not the biggest fan of White City, in fact i find it rather ugly! But
to those who live there this is a big deal..
There's been other noticable reprocussions from this economic famine..
All that work they did on the North end of town, the place i now refer to
as "The Dirt Farm", where it was apparently decided by whomever raped
and devestated the area that no tree would be allowed to live and is now
just a giant expanse of dirt, is now completely and most likely permanantly
on hold. For two damn years they re-arranged the landscape to the point
of being unrecognizable, only to just drop the entire project. In fact, the
company who made all the money from the ridiculous and questionable
project is now suing the City of Cave Junction, saying they should be
re-embersed for the upgrade and beautification they created!...

Anyway, as Mr. Lennon once said, "Strange days indeed!..most pecular
momma!"...

Vickie and me had fun over the weekend being scofflaws! We went down
to the Redwoods and availed ourselves of some of the beautiful ferns...
it's not as if they'll be missed due to the fact there's more ferns there than
the money Madoff bilked from his fellow americans!

Well, maybe not THAT many...

I'm off to bed..i hope everyone stays healthy and wise, and i'll try to check
back and write weird and headscratching craposis more often...

Until next time,

Peace.

A Trillion Here, A Trillion There.

And pretty soon you are talking about real money. What I'm concerned
about is an economic reinforcing feedback loop similar to the climate
change loop that is accelerating warming. For instance, as warming
melts ice and snow which reflects the sun, dark colored earth or sea,
which absorb more heat, become exposed, thus intensifying the cycle...

From:     Mij     4/13/2009     6:53 P.M.

Hello to all..

i've been rather scarce on this wonderful site and i'm sure
you've all been enjoying it very much! BUT!........

But it's time for another installment of "The world according to Mij"..

i must say first and foremost that i'm so glad our country has the extreme
good fortune of having Barack Obama as president. I know there's
things he's done he said he wouldn't do, and things he hasn't done that
he said he would do, but in the overall scheme of things he's a gigantic
breath of fresh air...if nothing else, he can put more than three words
together without a look of consternation clouding his face, and he really
wants to do something positive even though he and his administration
have literally been strapped with a titanic load of negative, to the point
of being just about insurmountable..I do get disappointed in all the nay-sayers spouting the same old feces.."Why aren't things changing", etc..it took 8 long yrs of an all out, no holes-barred, greed driven lethargicness by a whole cabal of evil men to bring us to our current situation, i don't see why we should expect some huge miracle all of a sudden...i have hope things will get at the very least not worse...hopefully better.

We've been feeling the crunch here of course. Some huge companies
which have been around for a long time are closing their doors..i myself
have been staying busy because thankfully someone always needs
manuel labor done! i've been doing a myriad of different things lately,
but one of the forever hardest and most draining jobs is slashing and
burning..i've had some HUGE fires going, and the combination of pulling,
dragging, yanking, lifting and being scratched and cut and breathing
smoke and sweating like a cheater at a final's test can really drain
you by the end of the day. Other than that it's great!

But i'm glad i can still work, so i won't complain. I did go golfing for the first
time EVER yesterday with my good friend, and i felt like i had been in
a boxing ring with a prize fighter later in the evening! i guess i used
muscles that weren't use to the stretching and straining golf swings
perpetuate upon the human body...or it could just be that i'm almost 49!

Speaking of getting older...

Actually, this has nothing to do with getting older!..anyway, about a week
ago a local lady in Grants Pass was sitting in her living room, watching TV
with her sister. Nothing strange about that i'm sure, but what happened
while they were watching said TV was strange! Apparently the lady started
complaining about stomach cramps. This went on for awhile when finally
the sister asked if she was alright and should she call a doctor...the lady
said no, but asked her sister to do her a huge favor and look "down there"
for her..saying it just didn't feel right. Her sister, who probably had been
asked many things in her life but never that particular request i'm sure, did
what her sister asked and knelt down and looked...she then exclaimed in
a surprised and shocked voice, "Oh my God, it's a baby"!
Yes, apparently this lady, who ended up having a 6.5 lb baby girl minutes
later, said she had absolutely no inkling of an idea she was pregnant, and
with complete amazement proceeded to give birth! They called 911 and the
operator talked the sister through the delivery, and the baby was fine
and healthy..
Now, i ask you, and this is coming from a man who's tried hard to make
Timothy Leary proud from all the mind-altering sunstances he's ingested,
how is possible to not know your pregnant?! It's like not knowing you have
skin! or finding out rivers are actually just water!..
Anyway, she was on all the local news channels, etc..personally i think
she's a couple pieces short of a full chord, but...

What did she think the kicking in her stomach was, a bad burrito?

So much for strange pregnancies..

I'll say adieu for now..

Peace.

From:     Ted     4/13/2009     11:02 P.M.

I would venture to say, mij, that this lady was a tad bit overweight? I've heard of this happening more than once to overweight teens especially. But it does seem bizarre to be so out of touch with one's body. Speaking of which, where's mine???

From:     Mij     4/14/2009     4:01 P.M.

Actually, that's the strange thing Ted, she was not fat at all..more like big
boned. And your right, i've heard of obese women being un-aware that
they were pregnant, but a normal lady...

Maybe she knew, and was just "kidding"..

Maybe she thought she was "pregnot".

Maybe she'll start a new enviromental organization called "Birth First".

Maybe she thought "Labor Pains" were just something Worker's Unions
had to deal with.

Maybe she didn't think.

Maybe i should stop before i say something relevent..

Peace.

You are mentioned on the hot new groups.yahoo.com/group/newpaltz1960

"10 Things I Remember
(Susie Sweitzer here)

(OK- I was a lit major, so my recollections are a bit more descriptive) :

1. WINTER BREAK
Holly Reisner, Rolf Horst, Don Yeo and me on a road trip to Nova Scotia in my red Ford Econoline van (it had blue curtains with white satin stars and looked like a freakin American flag driving down the road- a real police magnet).

We went to Nova Scotia to visit Don's uncle for New Year's Eve.
The snow was literally higher than the van. We finally had to follow a plowman just to make it through a storm. The plowman had been at it for 72 hours. He kept throwing empty pint bottles out his plow truck window. We finally found the coastal house in the whiteout. That was one time that no one gave me crap for owning a bright red van.

Don's uncle was a fisherman. He came in after dark, beard covered with ice. He was at least twice our age. He poured shots and challenged the guys to an arm wrestling contest. At evening's end, he'd won every round. We were stoned drunk. He was far from it. It was one of the best New Year's Eves ever!

Blowback

Blowback is a military term that refers to unintended consequences
that almost always arise in combat situations.

The latest example is the swine flu pandemic. There are strong
indications the virus originated at an industrial pig factory. For
those unfamiliar with the process, pigs are raised in extremely
stressful conditions. They spend their entire lives in cages too small
for them to even turn around in in buildings that are literally full
of shit and piss. All told, these pig factories are ideal breeding
grounds for creation of new viruses...

I paid the balance due on kodakgallery.com.
That means we have our 300 photos online for another year.

Their [very fair] new policy is that a minimal purchase must be made on all galleries to justify storing millions of photos online.

Hi Barb
I will go out on a limb and say it looks like we are safe once again.
The winds were negligible last night and the temperature about 20 degrees cooler. Even a fog rolled in.
We still have lots of firefighting personelle here but hardly any mention on the news channels.
Yeah.

From:     Mij     6/1/2009     10:07 P.M.

Hi all...

I wanted to let you know you almost had the relief of not having to
put up with any more diatribes from Mij!

Yesterday on my way back from the coast i was just this side of O'Brien
when a deer jumped out and i swerved to miss him...i was traveling around
60 or 65 MPH, and went off the highway and onto the gravel...the ensuing
ride was quite terrifying to say the least..

i tried to keep the car straight..but it would catch the pavement and start to
turn sideways, then i'd straighten it out again..this went on for what seemed
like forever before the tire caught enough to turn me sideways...the car
went back on and over to the other side of the highway, where after some
more extreme effort to keep the car from turning sideways and rolling it
caught violently, turned and rolled...

I rolled at least three times, landing right-side-up, pointing towards the
highway..the dirt..the shattering glass, and the horrific violence of the
whole accident unbelievable..
i sat for a second, then tried to open my door..i had to kick it open, but got
out, noticing my white tennis shoes getting red from blood pouring from
the back of my hand..i walked around the car and leaned in the shattered
and smashed passenger door and window, trying to collect all of my stuff
that had been completely thrown everywhere, all of it covered with dirt and
glass, the inside of the car just a big, unrecognizable mess..
By then a guy stopped, and with his eyes wide with horror at the condition
of my car and me bleeding over evrything says, "hey dude, you aught to
just sit down and take it easy until an ambulance can get here".
i went to the front of the car and sat on the crumpled hood, and by then
more people were stopping and started directing traffic, etc..two people
who were competent in first aid made me stay calm, asking me questions,
looking at my eyes for any dialation...eventually the cops and ambulance
showed up..i was put on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to Three
Rivers hospital in Grants Pass..i had ex-rays taken of my hand to make sure
it wasn't broken, then seven stiches on the cut on the back of my hand..

Today, although i feel like Mike Tyson beat on me for a few rounds, i'm
doing well just in the fact that i'm alive...i'm 49 today and feel very lucky
to have lived to see it...other than a very sore body and a gash on my hand,
i survived what was surely the potential for a fatal accident...although i
have to say i've had better birthdays!

Anyway, thought i'd regale you with the latest in the ever exciting world
of Mij! I hope eveyone is well and i'll try to write more in the future..

Peace.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soooo glad you are still with us.

From:     Mij     6/2/2009     8:16 A.M.

Thanks Ted, and your right..i think death and life..life and death are all
intertwined together, so either i wasn't suppose to leave this world yet,
or someone wasn't meant to enter it yet..i'm sure when it's my time no
amount of fancy driving or luck will make any difference!..

i'm feeling less battered today, and now it's the "get my life back to a
semblence of order" mode..getting the tickets and the insurance taken
care of, and all the other happy horseshit that is involved when one
decides to make his own highway through the brush and gravel on the
side of the road!
( Next time i'll try a larger vehicle..the Toyota just didn't hold up!..i'm thinking a hummer would have done much better! )

Peace and harmony to each and all..

Mij.

From:     Eugene Hill     6/4/2009     7:38 A.M.

damn mij... must have been something about that weekend...

i was on the roof doing my annual fix/make work the swamp
cooler... this year i had to:
- buy and install a new 3/4 horse motor and motor mount
- replace the water distribution system
- replace the pads (that is every year)

so the new electric motor is a larger diameter than the old
one and i have to modify the internal bracing on the roof
part to allow the motor to fit...

i remove the roof part and am cutting away at the bracing...
ummm... why am i doing this standing up... on the roof of
the house instead of moving everything to the ground... DOH...

so i am leaning downhill and sawing away when i overbalance
and am all of a sudden RUNNING downhill on the roof toward
the edge... i dump myself sideways... somersault a bit... and
end up on the little roof extension that covers my porch...

DAMN... all scraped and bruised but did not fall that last 8 feet
to the ground that would have broken my neck...

now you would think that at 59 i would have more sense than
to do such a stupid thing... but... apparently not...

glad we BOTH survived... but your story is really hair raising...
next year i suggest you do your deer hunting... with a rifle...

Cambodia Update

I write regularly about my doings in Cambodia for a website
khmer440.com so I forget that some of you might also be interested.

So to recap: after six years in Phnom Penh I decided I had to find an
escape from the big city. No matter how great a city is there's
something about it that demands I get some respite. As cities go,
especially as Asian cities go, Phnom Penh is eminently livable but
that doesn't change the imperative to find greener pastures...

Hey Stan, I just this minute finished watching Clint Eastwood's, "Gran Torino". His neighbors were Hmong...are there any Hmong in Cambodia? We used to have a few Hmong neighbors back in the 80s. Faith used to call her Hmong friends "Those Mungziz Goils". Good movie.

ted...it isn,t dead. think positive..do we need to set up a more obvious way to get some donations? the reunion thing happened pretty easily when the ideas started flowing...How about a logo that folks could order? or an easy way to get some old pictures in a presentale form...people seem to like getting something and are willing to pay a small amount of dough rather than just donating it. By the way I have about 10 more tee shirts also...if anyone who didn't get one want,s to buy one ( from reunionm#40) they are a bargain now at 10 dollars. email barbara weinstein at lbwnaima@comcast.net and I will mail you one or two.You can send $ to ted or to me and I can pass .it on to Ted.

Thank, Barbara, for your words of encouragement but it is not so much the money as my ego wanting recognition. I've made a lot of improvements and sense that hardly anyone has even looked at them, let alone participate. This website was originally designed to be "for the freaks, by the freaks".

Who's seen the tutorial video on how to upload pictures to this page?
Who's uploaded pictures to this page?
Who realizes they can view the bulletin board right on this page?
Who's tested out the new "Old Courtyard" page?
Who knows you can now post immediately to the Frankfort tribute page?
Who's uploaded pictures of the 40 year reunion?
And going way back...who's looked at the newly designed "Where was Sunnyridge" page (maps)?
Who's participated in the Sunnyridge Mailing List?
Who's created or updated their profile in the Address Book?

I get no comments...complaints...suggestions
I need to update a lot of the interactive pages but don't know which method people prefer.
I've got more ideas, like blogs but don't sense any interest.

And non-sunnyridgers!
There is a new Guestbook where pictures can be uploaded.
The bulletin board is free to anyone.

My supposed "labor of love" has become a real embarassment as I realize I am simply pushing unwanted stuff.
Sorry for bitching so...
I should get the message...
All my other sites...it's the same story
Maybe I should get a life!

From:     Mij     6/25/2009     9:57 P.M.

Hello all...

i would just like to say Ted that i would miss this site terribly were it no
longer around....i've been pretty lacking on my postings lately i know, and
i wish i had some money to donate to you, but i'm like everyone else right
now as far as funds go, although i'm sure your tired of hearing that!..

i'm thinking of the past how ever many years it's been that we've all had
the distinct pleasure of participating in this unique and enjoyable site,
and i realize how much i've been able to...express what i'm sure most
people think of as a rather warped and strange sense of humor!...i look at
some of the past postings and wonder how i wasn't permantly banned and
guys in white suits didn't haul me off...

Anyway, i love this site and appreciate the fact you've put so much time
and effort and moolah towards giving us aging, brown rice eating, acid
taking, foodstamp collecting humanoids a venue for our never dull
outlooks on this strange and wonderous thing called life..i hope to be able
to annoy everyone for a long time to come!

SOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo....i'm recovering nicely from my attempt at
trying to roll my car without the benefit of the round rubber things that
your suppose to use! i got the pictures back today and looking at how smashed up it was gives me shivers down my spine..i'm glad to still be here
and having the pleasure of annoying everyone! I am now driving a 1999
Jeep Cherokee. Some friends gave me a really good deal on it and are
letting me make casual payments and also trading work...i drove it to the
coast to see "extreme low tide" yesterday. The tide was as low as it can get,
close to minus 3 ft...it was really awesome..all sorts of stuff was exposed
that is usually under feets of water! Anyway, i managed to get back without
rolling it, so i'm happy!..

Mom has been doing ok..she got the sling off her shoulder yesterday and is
doing exercises to get as much mobility as she can back...she's been feeling
under the weather though for the past few days, so we made her go to the
doc today....they said whatever it is she has is getting better, although
she has a prescription for antibiotics if it does start to get worse...
Otherwise everyone is hanging in there and doing well..

We had a scare yesterday though, three people in a blue buick were driving
around setting fires! They started 5 fires, one of them just down the road
from us! They closed Caves Highway and redirected traffic by our house
for hours...as of today all the fires are out but they still haven't found the
culprits...never a dull moment!

Well, i just wanted to say hi to everyone and let you know Ted that we still
love your cool site, and i'll definately try to write more than i have been..
one thing though, it takes forever to load now..we of course still have our
prehistoric dial-up service, but for some reason it takes quite awhile for the
pages to load, and it never use to..what do you think the reason is
O' master of web?...( i think it's because of all the pictures, etc..but then
again, i think a lot of things!..most of them strange and irrevelant to say the
least! )

It's late, so i'll say adieu...

until next time..

Peace.

From:     Mij     6/26/2009     6:16 A.M.

Oh those crazy lazy days of summer..the certain feel it has..the smells and
sounds that seem to be an intricate part of it's whole. One just needs to
reflect back a bit and immediately the flood of winter returns with an almost
tangible essence..the cold, the wet, the sunless and starless skies..all of
which have their own beauty, and their own reasons for being....
Summertime is a timeless awakening of the human soul and spirit, it
breathes new life into the sleeping neutrality that seems to permeate all
things during the long, quiet, restful days of winter and lets the deep
seeds of blooming human spirit open up into all it's glory...

We tend to forget the past when we're caught up in the here and now...it's
the natural way of things and how we continue to grow and flourish as
human spirits..to dwell to much on the past diminishes the incredible
ever changing excitement of the present...it's a fine line we walk upon when
we reflect upon the past, for we can so easily forget to stride into our ever
strange and changing future with the vigor and hopefulness that makes our
existence that much more exciting and beautiful...

We lose the things we love..and find new things we didn't know were even
there..some of them good, some of them bad, all of them a necessary
part of the entire scheme of the sphere of life...i suppose it's the simple
act of just being..that is the key to whatever puzzle we as humans seem to
always be trying to unlock from the day we emerge from the womb to the
day we go back to our maker...and try as we may, it's never what we think
or imagine it to be, for just when we think we've figured out the meaning of
it all, something happens to start the whole process over again, and that
stream of the unknown is exactly what we need to continue being who we
are, for if and when we figure it all out, then what is left?...( In my
case, probably worn out jokes and senseless drivel! )

My soul and spirit has been put through a sort of obstical course of change
lately....and many physical occurances have seemd to make my vision of
the future clouded and that light sometimes seems to fade to an almost
unrecognizable glint of what and who i am...
But then something as simple as a beautiful sunset..or maybe the feel
of a cool breeze..or just a really good and much needed laugh stops
all the doubts and questions and i once again remember we all have
a reason for being...although mine can sometimes put the hand to the head
and cause alot of scratching!...( and you thought it was fleas! )

I realize the words above probably are strange..and maybe even comically
senseless in their presentation, but luckily your all pretty much use to my
rambling discourses by now! I guess i'm just trying to say in a semi-poetically
way that although the reasons for our existence are never clear, mine is
apparently to annoy and make normally intelligent people ask:
Why the hell is he taking up so much valuable chat space!!!"

So much for the "deep thoughts by Mij" section of our program, we now
return you to the regularly scheduled diatribe..

So two guys walk into a bar!...........

Peace...

Sorry llucy...and anyone else who didn't click on the the "links" on that "warning" about privacy.
It's only a joke.
Click on one of the links and you will see.

However, those were very interesting thoughts on the subject, llucy!
I agree...we really can't change things from the outside.

Which reminds me of a joke!

The Zen Master said the the hot-dog vendor, "Make me one with everything".
There's more...
The Zen Master paid the hot-dog vendor and waited for his change.
When it didn't seem forthcoming he inquired about it.
The hot-dog ventor looked surprised and said, "Why, Master...you, more than anyone else should know that all change comes from within!"

FIREWORKS

Happy Independence Day!

From:     Mij     7/6/2009     4:46 P.M.

Hello all, i hope everyone had a great 4th of July!

Me and Patrick survived our 30 yr class reunion..it's always a bit un-nerving
when knowing you'll be seeing so many people whom you haven't had anything what-so-ever to do with for the better part of a half century!
But after the initial jitters it went awesome and we had a great weekend.
It was started off with a class dinner Friday night and then the inevitable
mass exodus to the local bar we call "the gutter" ( it's the "Red Garter" )
It's the one time a year i actually go to the bar and it was completely
packed with a mass of partying humanity! I had three and four women at
a time asking me to dance, which i usually have to be on some sort of
powerful mind-altering substance to do! It's weird being almost the
only person in the whole place not having had even so much as a sip of
alcohol..the bartender told me all my cokes were on the house! I guess
it's rare to see someone sober in such a swarm of inebreation!..
So i managed to go until almost 2:00 am before i headed home with a
mind-full of rather erotic images!
The Treehouse event was really awesome..we had the annual
"youngsters/geezers" softball game at 1:00...it's sort of a kick-off to the
local softball league, being the first time everyone gets together to
play. We ( the geezers of course! ) beat them for the 5th yr in a row..not
that i'm keeping track or anything!..
Eventually it will have to be changed to those who have teeth vs those
without!

or not.

Afterwards there was 4 bands that played until the wee hours of the night
interspersed with an amazing fireworks display...the consensus of most
people i've talked to put the attendence at somewhere between 1500
and 2000 people...all of them eating, drinking, smoking and having fun,
without so much as a raised voice the whole day and night...it's
kind of an amazing event for such a small community...

So all in all we had a good reunion/4th....except for the occasional bouts
of gas...

"TRY NEW GAS-B-GONE!"

So, i just heard something that i couldn't believe! It seems that
Michael Jackson died....

Back to the damn reunion you were sick of hearing about after the
first sentence!...you may be wondering why me and Patrick graduated
in the same class..( or you may have not even so much as gave a
nano-second's worth of thought about it..) but just in case your one of
the two people who did ponder upon it, when we first moved up here
way back in 1970 and we all had bodily functions and teeth, me and
Patrick were of course two little hippie kids running around and for
a few yrs we didn't go to school..the idea of course was my mom and dad
would "home school" us, actually having a certain number of hours
designated each day to that well-intentioned plan...

That lasted about a week.

Anyway, when we did return to school, "they" decided that although
Patrick would be a Junior and i'd be a Sophmore had we actually attended
public school like normal children, it would be better for the both of us
if we started out in the same class as Freshman...hence why we
graduated at the same time..

WAKE UP! the message isn't done yet!!

Ok...that will have to do for now, you can all go back to what you were
doing...

Until next time...

Peace.

From:     Ted     7/6/2009     7:49 P.M.

What's "sa"?

From:     Mij     7/8/2009     7:24 A.M.

Ted, i have no idea!...i just noticed it when i came on...i think i accidently
hit the letters before i posted the message..

Of course, i'm sure i can come up with a few things they could stand for!..

For instance..

.................

Nope! Guess i can't!....is there anyway to delete them? Otherewise the
floor is now open as to what those two letters could possibly stand for!
( Please, keep it clean folks, this is a family site afterall! )

Steve Allen?

Sarah Ailin'?

Anyway, i have nothing else to Sa'.....

Well, actually i do of course, but i'll be a nice guy and spare you the effort
of once again scratching your head in bewilderment...

Peace.

You may have seen where Obama just got back from a visit to Russia..but
what you may not know is that as he could see Sarah Palin packing up
her desk from there..

( remember..she could see Russia from... )

Later!

Anyone watch the movie "Across the Universe"? My daughter Faith is in it. Here's a picture from the move. It's also in the coming attractions trailer we saw the other night. We were surprised. Faith is the girl in the white hat.
By the way...the movie is great.

From:     Mij     7/15/2009     6:19 A.M.

Wow! That's cool Ted!...and you can really see her!...my brother said
they watched the movie and liked it alot...( i watch about a third of the
movies because i'm either not here or i fall asleep in my chair ten minutes
after they start!....)

I'm trying to get an early start today due to the triple digit temps predicted
for this afternoon...have four bottles of water and three changes of clothes!
"They" have Medford for 103 today, which would be the hottest temps
this year..been a strange Spring/Summer weatherwise here in the
Illinois Valley..we had 90's in early May, but since then it's been below
normal..of course, i'm not exactly the poster child to what is or isn't
normal!

This weekend is the annual "Sunstar" event..i guess you'd call it a festival
of sorts..it's the one time of the year i go out there and annoy everyone!
There's music and food-booths, etc...and usually you can actually see
hippie-like people!..

or not.

Well. hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the summer...stay cool
and don't forget to laugh at the things you can't change and change the
things you can't laugh at....or change your laugh ....or laugh when you get
change back...or back off when your change is laughable...

Until next time....

Peace.

From:     Ted     7/18/2009     4:47 P.M.

Hi mij...
Hope the Sunstar event isn't ruined by your presence.
I plan to ruin New York this week. Me and my brother are taking my mom to some upstate locations we haven't been to in maybe 40 years. She will probably cry.

I may be able to get to a computer but if not I am sure you all will entertain yourselves.
Hugs to everyone...Ted

From:     Ted     7/28/2009     8:22 P.M.
Wow....so much happening here in the week I been gone....don't know what to do!!!
Anyway...back home, safe and sound from a beautiful week in up-state NY.
This picture is me and my brother standing in front of our childhood vacation spot...now owned by some redneck it appears. The air is still as fresh and fragrant as we remembered it.

From:     Mij     7/29/2009     4:04 P.M.

Hi all!

I'm glad you got to see your mom Ted!..and if she didn't cry you'd have
been doing something wrong...that's really cool you did that for
her, i hope you all enjoyed the time thoroughly..and by the way, you
and your brother look alot alike!...but then again, i see about as good as
Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Ronny Milsap combined!...

They were all blind...

Anyway, good that your back and safe..and still have that sarcastic
undertone! "Wow, so much happening here in the week i've been gone"!..
it's good to give no-so-obvious barbs at the masses! i do believe though
that the summertime brings a very obvious decline in the chat due to...
well, it being summertime! Pretty damn deep huh?!...i myself have been
very busy trying to juglle work with work..oh yeah, and i forgot about
work!...actually it's not that bad, i exaggerate..( Me exaggerate?..NO! )
Our softball season started a couple weeks ago, and so i've been getting
down to the park in the evenings a few times a week. Our team was
undefeated until last night when we lost a heartbreaker in the bottom of the
7th..we were down by 7 runs in the bottom of the inning and ended up
with the tieing run on third! But alas, we just couldn't quite pull out the
miracle comeback! So now three teams are tied for the lead at 3-1
records..

Are you asleep yet folks?..

Ok! Moving not along!...let's see, the weather is absolutely BAKING! We've
been at or above the triple digits for two weeks and some of the readings
have beed almost scary! Talent ( next to Medford ) was 112 yesterday!..
We were about 108 and it's the same again today..now it's looking like we
may be getting into a thunderstorm pattern by the weekend which would
do much towards ending this beautiful smoke-free summmer we've been
enjoying so far. Firefighters have been bored, and i can't say that i'm sorry
for them..but it may well pick up really fast..

My mom went back to the doctor last week whom originally treated her
broken shoulder and was amazed at how well she's doing! He even said
to her and my sister that when it first happened he really didn't think
she'd ever use that am again! He just didin't want to worry her so kept that
opinion to himself...anyway, she's got a good percentage of her mobility
back and is doing well...

I'm pretty much back to what would for me pass as normality after my wreck
in early June..my hand is completely healed and i only have faint murmurs
of the whiplash and body-slam i recieved from trying to get my car home
on it's roof instead of the wheels! My friend's that i do alot of work for were
kind enough to give me a great deal on their Jeep Cherokee...it's a red,
1999 5-speed...i've never actually owned a vehicle you can go tear up the
countryside with!...so far though, i've pretty much tried to keep it on the
pavement, something i was unable to do with my car!

As for the rest of humanity, you'll have to ask them yourself!

I'm off to do a few chores of which needless to say will involve dealing
with the oven currently taking up the entire outside world! I just wanted to
say before i go that your work here Ted doesn't go un-noticed, at east not
intentionally...i think like anything in life, there are times when things
just get slow..summertime has a way of presenting many ways for one to
keep busy, especially with outdoor activities, and so naturally things like
being on the computer take a back seat for awhile..

Or i could just be full of the perverbial load of craposis!..( that's a much
more likely scenario i know! )

Anyway, that's Mij Freud's take on things, that's probably why i keep to such
soul-searching, deep endeavors like digging ditches and pouring cement!

Stay cool,

Mij

Peace.

From:     Ted     7/29/2009     7:59 P.M.

Thanks again mij..."Are you asleep yet folks?" got me laughing for almost a minute! It's good to laugh.
So glad both you and your mom are healing so well...a testimony to the power of herbs.
Also glad you have a new vehicle. Glad you are refraining from off-road trips.
I got my first vehicle...a jeep wagoneer....in Medford (way back).
But no sooner did we get back to the claim when I locked the hubs and took off with Sam and a few Sunnyridgers to see what this truck was made of.
Over logs and boulders it was like Disney Land in the woods. Then the leaf-springs broke and we hobbled back to that kid down the road from us who was a genius mechanic. Can't remember his name. They had that cool tram accross the river. Place where Richie Ward decided this life sucked to much to stay.
Are you asleep yet, Folks?
Ha Ha Ha Ha

From:     Mij     7/30/2009     11:37 A.M.

Thanks Ted, i always have that intention when i write something..that is,
to make people laugh..but sometimes it doesn't quite work out that way!

I do believe you are thinking of Greg Chapp? His mom is Susan Chapp..
He was a nice guy, and he had a sister too...( very cute..i think..but then
again i was a teenage boy with raging hormones! Sheep looked cute! )

Didn't i just get done saying it doesn't always work out that way!

Off to do some much needed chores, including seeing about tune-up/oil
change for the red beast....and your message wasn't creepy at all Ted...

Now Michael Jackson, that's creepy!!!

i just keep digging the perverbial offensive hole don't i?

Mij.

Peace.

Here's one of the videos I took of our trip up-state New York.
Pine lake was great - beautiful and tranquil - we took rowboats and canoes to its far end and skinny dipped off rock islands (cute when you are a kid but not so cute now). I used to catch the little salamanders that lived in the lake (amphibian stage of the "newt". There was a funky little amusement park too.

Hi Everyone--Since June, coming down Hays Cut off Rd, we have
had a glorious experience of seeing the two cow pastures
alive and thriving with millions and millions of Queen Anne's Lace--
Not just in spots, they covered the whole pasture from end to end--
The blossoms lasted for a good month--they are just now fading away--
Anyone else see a field or pasture covered with this beautiful weed?
It was very very impressive--
It seems to me every season, Mother Nature gives something extra to us
from her bountiful breadbasket of goodies--A few years back it was that
wild chicory with that beautiful blue saturating every nook and corner of
most of the fields--We are turning the corner into Autumn, and I am quite sure
Mother has something special in store for us--

Peace, love
Have a great evening

Adam's Website
A HAPPY UPDATE!
We visited Adam a couple weeks ago and saw with our own eyes how transformed and grounded he was. It felt good to feel proud of him.
And he said it felt good to actually hug someone. It had been years.
He figured that going back to school was the best plan so with a little help from his proverbial "guardian angel" (many stories on that...and an actual astrological configuration in his chart)...he got himself enrolled.
WE JUST FOUND OUT HE GOT STRAIGHT "A"s!!
Congratulations Adam and may everything keep moving along smoothly.
I've redesigned Adam's web site.

Well, Barbara, I had been pondering how safe Cambodia might be when the crunch comes and trying to imagine living in Oregon again when I saw your post. . Cambodians are very warm, friendly and welcoming of foreigners, but we also know its history. But America might well be worse in crunch times than Cambo. Meanwhile the US is becoming a police state. Very strange: when Bush was pres you could get arrested for wearing an anti-Bush t-shirt, now you can go to Obama events with loaded firearms ... is the secret service setting him up for an assassination?
At this point I can't imagine leaving the tropics, but, on the other hand, it'd be great to be around the kids and old friends and Oregon.
One thing for sure, it'd be excruciating to have to live in a middle-class fogey home like the one mom lived in for 5 years.

But we may need community to survive so thanks B and L for thinking about the future.

The Lone Ranger and Tonto went camping in the desert. After they got
their tent all set up, both men fell sound asleep. Some hours later,
Tonto wakes the Lone Ranger and says, 'Kemo Sabe, look towards sky,
what you see?'

The Lone Ranger replies, 'I see millions of stars.'

'What that tell you?' asked Tonto.

The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute then says, 'Astronomically
speaking, it tells me there are millions of galaxies and potentially
billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in
Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three
in the morning. Theologically the Lord is all-powerful and we are
small and insignificent. Meteorologically it seems we will have a
beautiful day tomorrow.'

What does it tell you Tonto?

You dumber than buffalo shit. It means someone stole the tent.

please let me clarify...i see the community of our future as most definately active and income producing as well as involving creative and imaginative pursuits.. larry, for one, is always going to be able to utilize his talent and skill with his little black doctor bag... many of us will be able to continue to do things on li. etc. etc etc...somehow i don't like the idea of retirement...i do like the idea that ability to bring resources, of all kinds, to a community, that does indeed have members who need support and have serious health concerns who benefit from those resources, is a big piece of this ....how amazing can it get? what do we believe we can co-create? om barbara w.

From:     Ted     8/28/2009     5:02 P.M.

Yeah...who wants to really "retire"...we are creative beings. A community it seems should simply be a family of like-minded or kindred spirits enabling each other.
