Another pic from SIG. Who's house is that behind the garden? And there might even be another structure to the right of it (is is that the pig pen?).
FROM: SIG, on Jun 11, 2000
Silly Ted! It's YOUR house! The west end of, etc. Kitchen (old) to the left of it. You can see your loft above it, I believe...
FROM: SIG, on Jun 11, 2000
Silly SIG! NOT the loft. Hmmm. Pretty sure this is the west end of the garden, though. Ted-- check out the photo of SIG and his Mom; that was for sure taken at the west end of the Living Room/Sauna/Pilger Building. Compare with background of this shot, tell me your conclusion....
FROM: Waterman, on Jun 11, 2000
Mmmmm. got me think'n. If this shot is from the back of the garden than that place COULD be the "middle room" in the courtyard. But I had assumed this shot was from the front of the garden, standing in the old courtyard.

who are the people in the photo ? a peaked roof ? usually our bldgs would be shed roofed...streching our memories. this could be somewheres anywheres ? got me
FROM: Teddy, on Jun 11, 2000
Oh..now I see...This is taken from the back end of the garden and the building is the "old kitchen".
FROM: SIG, on Jun 13, 2000
By George he's got it! I think he's got it! WebMaster/WaterMan, you genius. Two windows are dishwasing room ones. Buddha behind head. Middle room bldg to right, outta sight. Can almost make out rose vine on west end of Old Kitchen....The lady is SIG's sister, Sharon, with, I believe, Micah Hale. No?
FROM: jim, on Jun 13, 2000
ok...now i remember the hale tot...what was his mother's name ?
FROM: jim , on Jun 13, 2000
everything is returning....yes....the the kitchen....and the corner bldg that was once the kids room...teds place in the middle, my studio next door...all is falling into place.....
FROM: SIG, on Jun 14, 2000
Hale lady was Chris...Jim--Was your studio at the laundry room end? I lived in that room after the Lodge. It was great. Melnick extended the garden, wrapped it clear around that room. In summer, I took the back (plastic) windows out, was living half-outdoors. Was making wooden spoons/abalone crosses/antler pipes etc. there. Ethan born July 4th next door, only Patty M. and I in the room at the time... Temp plunged below freezing for 12 days or so in the winter; I stuffed newspaper in all cracks; that room was TIGHT. When I lit the fire, you could feel the ball of heat spread out to the walls....Natasha stayed there during that freeze; she was feeling a bit sick at the time, but was very glad for the warmth....

my studio was next to ted's going the other direction.....

Tsk, Tsk why is this fence in such disrepair? Jimmy before the Studio there was the Living room where, aat the beginning George and Debbie slept and where Aleph (?) was born; then the Sauna, clothes closet and Ted's room; then the Middle room where Betty and I stayed after moving in from the tent. This became the a workshop(Beany etc.);
then the kids room. This was the lineup of the rooms that began as the open shed described in my answer to: When did you first come to SR?

One more thing, I think you folks have the directions mixed up. The "back end of the garden" is,in my opinion, the east end. As I recall in the summer the sun would"rise" over the mountain visible from the rose framed kitchen window.
FROM: SIG, on Jun 16, 2000
In my (unreliable) memory, if you stood in front of the lodge facing JAF's stop sign, you were looking approximately south, facing the mountain peak and California. To your left, facing the creek and eventual sunset, was my sister holding Micah. It would be about 10 AM or so, with the sun behind them and a bit to the right...Refer to my e-message with the Mapquest site....

Peter--Why didn't you fix that fence?.....
FROM: God, on Jun 17, 2000
"Front" and "back" are too subjective. Use the compass directions I gave you!
FROM: Leah, on Jun 24, 2000
I was in the room when Ethan was born...so was Elizabeth.
FROM: SIG, on Jun 30, 2000
Sorry, Leah; I had no memory of your being there. But I'm pretty sure you're right that Elizabeth was there.....

If indeed the two windows are where the dishes were washed in the old kitchen, I recall a large garbage can in there which was filled with home-made granola. Philip was especially fond of this staple.
