The larder now lives @ 3390 Caves Hi-way. This is where I moved all I owned in '92. The larder is now painted the colour = tan, and has a tin roof over the old roofing.

I remember it as bigger than would fit on the back of an old flatbed! It was fun going in there to fish out some of Natasha's barrell made pickles or a bunch of oatmeal for the breakfast. No comparison withthe old root cellar where the water came to one's knees in winter when one went in there to collect three of four jars of canned fruit in a downpour to bring back to the old kitchen where the fruit was painstakingly evenly divided into as many portions as there were stoned mouths eager to taste that which in summer had promised the delicacy that was about to be consumed. In the larder there were metal garbage cans that held the staples- oats, brown rice, whole wheat flour- sometimes turkey eggs, 100lb bag of potatoes also jars of canned tomatoes, fruit, maybe peaches, certainly black berries from the field in Holland... When it was full it was good...

Did you keep lard in the larder?
What the heck is a larder, anyway?

A larder is an old fashioned refrigerator, Trudy. A well insulated dark outdoor pantry, perfect for storing perishables. I loved seeing the canned peaches on the shelves and frequently plunged my hand in the cold pickle barrel for the great pickled green tomatoes.

Ah! Aha! So that's what a larder is! Did you store any artichokes in there?

I don't think I ever saw an artichoke at Sunnyridge.
But I did see Richie Ward choke.
But that's a whole different subject.
Richie's death was quite an experience.

I don't remember ever seeing the Larder at SR.
It certainly is one of the better looking vehicles,
and what it contained inside was 'happiness'.
I'll have to ride up Caves Hwy and view it, if its
still there. Peace-Rita

I would like the plans to build a larder as an add on to my home. I would like access through the inside of the kitchen in my home, with the actual larder, sort of hanging on the outside of the home. Kinda like a box extending away from the outer wall. Do you know where I could find something like that?
