Welcome to the re-designed Sunnyridge Occult Page
The previous logo was actually copywrited so has been replaced with something that should represent the blending of various points of view...an ideal of the 60's.
I have also added some sounds and images
for those who would like to...
turn on
tune in
and drop out.

Then do the circus tricks!
The desire was given to us for a reason, by Him...
When the body and heart are fulfilled, not denied...
Then the mind is free to hear Buddha sing more sweetly!
Where is the rest of this poem??

Alas, fleshly desires are addictive, and tend to lead to more desire....."Fulfilled" is temporary--or never happens at all....The body just wants more, is stuck on its pleasure/pain loop....To learn to desire what is permanent is the best.....

SIG,
I believe if we contemplate on the origin of the Universe, when space and time came to be, and duality came to be (good/evil, up/down, hot/cold, pleasure/pain...), we are indeed seeking what is eternal (permanent), that is, we are focusing on the source of our being and all of creation. This takes our mind and spirit above the fleshly desires of the physical realm.
(This is my first posting. It's gonna take me a little effort to loosen up... :-)
What was that movie about a monk(was it Marty Feldman?) who was forced to live in the greater society? Upon being tempted by a beautiful woman he cries out something like: "God! If you so strongly wanted us to avoid temptations of the flesh, why did you make us out of meat?!"

Bub--Perhaps Marty Feldman playing Brother Ambrose in "In God We Tru$t"....Never saw it (but the 'Net is the best research tool EVER!)....I agree that we must recognize the source (Who I call "God")...As for the flesh--it was not meant to be this way. Before the Fall in the Garden it was not. Alas, it has become corrupted....But take heart; it will eventually be restored!...

I've read about this symbol of a tree. In the tree are two birds. One bird is contemplating the origin, before the fall, if you will. It understands the relative nature of good and evil and focuses on oneness. The other bird is eating berries because it accepts the reality of doing what it takes stay alive in the world. The point is that we should identify with (be) the tree.
When I was about 18 years old (23 years ago), I was talking to a friend passionately about the relative nature of good and evil, trying to convey my belief that people are generally very narrow-minded. He surprised me by grabbing my throat really hard. I was pissed and I knocked him back. I yelled at him that it didn't mean I wasn't going to live in the real world or didn't see my pain as important or real. Thinking back on that, I realized then that there were two opposing ideas that had to live together in our heads, but that most people could only think in good vs. bad mode and in a rigid way.
To continue my rambling... I was reading this OCCULT thread from the start and Eugene was talking about an experience he longed to revisit where his state of mind had been changed for a few months. He stated that he was in a sort of blissfull state where he saw absolutely everything as beautiful. It sounds like a mythic experience to me. US society tends to treat unusual viewpoints or experiences as problems to be fixed. Eugene's shrink called it "a phychotic breakdown", or something like that. So, why then does Eugene want so badly to return to that state?
Ok. Bye. My mind is empty again... :0)

I am passing through.. looking for a poem from the 60's about Jesus. It didn't mention his name I think .. but started with him being born in a stable and rising to the idea of the great influence he had through the centuries .. Does anyone remember this or anything about it?

One Solitary Life
He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman,
He grew up in still another village, where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty.
Then for three years he was an itinerant preacher.
He never wrote a book.
He never held an office.
He never had a family or owned a house.
He didn’t go to college.
He never visited a big city.
He never travelled two hundred miles from the place where he was born.
He did none of the things one usually associates with greatness.
He had no credentials but himself.
He was only thirty-three when the tide of public opinion turned against him.
His friends ran away.
He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial.
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.
While he was dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he owned on earth.
When he was dead, he was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.
Nineteen centuries have come and gone, and today he is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind’s progress.
All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on this earth as much as that ONE SOLITARY LIFE.
From: Joel 6/2/2003

As good and true as the poem above is, it leaves out one all important point and that is that Christ came back from the dead. No other religious or spiritual leader has ever come back from the grave nor have they claimed to be God. The resurrection of Yeshua from the grave was like an exclamation point at the end of the most incredible human life ever lived It became the proof of everything Jesus said and did before he was put to death. If he was not who he said he was he would have remained dead like every other spiritual leader the world has ever seen.
Christ's resurrection and the historical evidence for it, have been studied by many, including those who set out to disprove it as just a wild theory. To their amazement, some who have set out to disprove Christ's resurrection have actually been convinced otherwise and are now strong believers in Jesus Christ. Once again I challenge you to read one of the many books on the subject. The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, a former journalist for the Chicago Tribune is one of the better books on this subject.

all "great spiritual leaders" still live
From: Joel 6/4/2003
8:35 A.M.
We have all known people and loved ones who have died. Death has a certain finality to it. Those who have died do not suddenly reappear though their spirit certainly lives on not only in our hearts and minds but in the spiritual realm as well. Their ultimate fate is in God's hands.
But that is not the kind of "living" we are talking about. As a human being Jesus shared the same fate we all do - death. Remember the saying; there are only two things in life you can count on taxes and death. He was cruelly put to death and then buried in a grave. Three days later he was alive again with a body that bore the scars from his crucifixion. This is unique in all of human history. No other person including spiritual leaders rose from the dead. Buddha died, Moses died, Mohammed died, Swami Yogananda, Lao Tzu and Confucius all died as did anyone else you can name or think of.
Jesus alone, demonstrated his authority and power over man's worst enemy, death, by rising from the dead. That is because he is the author of life itself. Jesus was not merely a great mortal man. He is the Word (the Logos) and the "Word was made flesh and dwelt among us". His life stands out sharply as the poem above says but his death and resurrection demonstrate that he is not just another leader but God himself. "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning...And the Word became flesh and he made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
Here's the best part: "To all who receive him, to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, children born not of natural descent, nor of human passion ...but born of God."

why did Jesus say...don't touch me, because I have not yet ascended?
From: SIG 6/5/2003
7:45 A.M.
Some of David Guzik's commentary on John Chapter 20:
a. Why didn't Jesus want Mary to touch Him? Actually, the Greek construction "means to stop an action already begun rather than to avoid starting it" (Tenney)
i. Mary was holding on to Jesus: His body was different, yet similar, but definitely real and tangible; not a phantom!
b. "Jesus was not protesting that Mary should not touch Him lest He be defiled, but was admonishing her not to detain Him because He would see her and the disciples again" (Tenney)
i. "We need not be detained by that curiosity of exegesis which supposes that he still had to enter the heavenly holy of holies to complete the antitype of the Day of Atonement initiated by his sacrifice on the cross." (Bruce)
c. "He says not 'Our Father': in one sense therefore, He is mine, in another sense He is yours; by nature mine, by grace yours . . . my God, under whom I also am as a man; your God, between whom and you I am a mediator" (Augustine)
i. Jesus is pointing out a difference between His relationship with God and the disciples' relationship with God
From: SIG 6/5/2003

....and some of Coffman's:
Although forbidden to touch the Lord, Mary nevertheless was granted the far more wonderful privilege of telling the good news of his resurrection and of announcing to them the forthcoming ascension.
Touch me not ...
is another "discrepancy" in the eyes of some, for Matthew recorded that "the women came and held him by the feet and worshiped him" (Matthew 28:9). But, like all "discrepancies," this one also disappears in the light of study. The occasion in Matthew was marked by the presence of several women (including Mary Magdalene); in this incident, only Mary seems to have been present. These are therefore two separate epiphanies; and the only thing that may be made of it is that Jesus permitted several women to do something which, in this first appearance to Mary, he had denied. Also, the KIND of touching in the two appearances was different. The worship of Jesus does not seem to have been the purpose of Mary in that first spontaneous greeting. There was no inherent refusal of Jesus to be touched by mortals after the resurrection, because he specifically invited Thomas to do so (John 20:27); and he invited all the apostles to "handle" him (Luke 24:39). There was, therefore, clearly some divine reason for Jesus' prohibition of Mary's intended touching of him in this appearance. But is such a thing a "discrepancy"? Emphatically, No! There is another case of this same type of discrimination a little later in John, where the Lord prophesied the martyrdom of Peter, but denied the specific request to prophesy the future of John (John 21:18-23). If those two events had been related in separate Gospels, the critics would have been baying yet about a "discrepancy" in the Lord's prophesying the future of one apostle and refusing to do so of another. The Lord's permission to touch him, denied in one instance and granted in another, cannot logically be viewed as a "discrepancy." Morgan's words seem to shed some further light on the question, thus:
He did not say, "Touch me not." It is unfortunate how that rendition misses the true meaning. The English Revised Version margin reads, "Take not hold of me."
It should not be overlooked that to Mary came the unique honor of being first told of the ascension to the Father. She also conveyed the glorious message of his resurrection, not merely of an empty grave, but of the living Saviour!

Jesus, like all other religious leaders, taught men to pray, that is, He taught them to look away from the world of ordinary sense impressions and to open the heart and spirit to God; yet He is always insistent that religion must be related to life. It is only by contact with God that a better quality of living can be achieved -- and Jesus Himself, as the records show, spent many hours in communion with God -- yet that new quality of life has to be both demonstrated and tested in the ordinary rough-and-tumble of plain living. It is in ordinary human relationships that the validity of a man's communion with God is to be proved.

Lyrics of "Your Love Broke Through," by the late Keith Green:
Like a foolish dreamer, trying to build a highway to the sky
All my hopes would come tumbling down, and I never knew just why
Until today, when you pulled away the clouds that hung like curtains on my eyes
Well I`ve been blind all these wasted years and I though I was so wise
But then you took me by surprise
Like waking up from the longest dream, how real it seemed
Until your love broke through
I`ve been lost in a fantasy, that blinded me
Until your love broke through
All my life I`ve been searching for that crazy missing part
And with one touch, you just rolled away the stone that held my heart
And now I see that the answer was as easy, as just asking you in
And I am so sure I could never doubt your gentle touch again
It`s like the power of the wind
Like waking up from the longest dream, how real it seemed
Until your love broke through
I`ve been lost in a fantasy, that blinded me
Until your love, until your love, broke through

We might well pray for God to invade and conquer us, for until He does, we remain in peril from a thousand foes. We bear within us the seeds of our own disintegration... The strength of our flesh is an ever present danger to our souls. Deliverance can come to us only by the defeat of our old life. Safety and peace come only after we have been forced to our knees... MasterPath is the ancient wine in a new wineskin
MasterPath is the path etched upon soul at the beginning of time and reflected in the beauty and design of the human body
MasterPath deals with the individual and Mastery over one's own world, one's unique point of view
MasterPath deals with "sound" rather than "light", with consciousness and soul rather than knowledge and mind
MasterPath is for that individual who is tired of trying to figure it out all alone and with open hands turns to the archtype Master within
MasterPath is the path of all the great masters throught history and pre-history

After some more reading, let me revise my question: What is the connection, if any, between MasterPath and Radhasoami, Sant Mat, and Eckankar? Who decides exactly who qualifies as a master?
The "No it isn't" reply occurred to me; it could only have been posted as a joke, and reminded me of the SR kids' singsong "Uh-uh-uh," Uh-huh-uh,' Uh-uh-uh" (repeat 17 times).
Actually, your answer disappointed ME, as it was no answer at all. I feared it was a refusal to examine or discuss the teaching you are being given, but perhaps, seemingly, hopefully, it was not.

Who decides exactly who qualifies as a master?
Matthew 16
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
The White Brotherhood is an astral plane phenomenon. Radhasoami, Sant Mat, and Eckankar are "Light and Sound" teachings but devoid of a True Master.
I had much more to say, but I am inadequate. I don't really trust the mind that much. Neither do I trust the heart. Grace is above these.

A Translation of "Our Father" directly from the Aramaic into English
(rather than from Aramaic to Greek to Latin to English)
O cosmic Birther of all radiance and vibration!
Soften the ground of our being and carve out a space within us
where your Presence can abide.
Fill us with your creativity so that we may be empowered to
bear the fruit of your mission.
Let each of our actions bear fruit in accordance with our desire.
Endow us with the wisdom to produce and share what each being needs
to grow and flourish.
Untie the tangled threads of destiny that bind us, as we release others
from the entanglement of past mistakes. Do not let us be seduced by
that which would divert us from our true purpose, but illuminate the
opportunities of the present moment.

SIG, I tend to agree with you. The above translation seems a little new-age. I like the plain old Lord's Prayer...it is all encompassing and creates a good attitude...if one can overcome the distorted attitudes developed from society' christian-bashing. Yet, I am sure even the plain old version is not entirely accurate. There have been so many translations. Mankind tries real hard to understand but I think basically the Mind cannot possibly grasp that which comes from above it self...just as our bodies cannot understand emotional and mental messages that animate it. I was emailed this translation and thought it would be a good controversial topic of discussion. Actually I like the 23rd psalm better. And even better yet...the sound in the silence.

Whenever you feel anger, you should say, "May I be free of this anger!"
This rarely works, but talking to yourself in public will encourage others
to leave you alone.
Drink tea and nourish life. With the first sip, joy.
With the second, satisfaction.
With the third, Danish.
The Buddha taught that one should practice loving kindness to all sentient

Still, would it kill you to find a nice sentient being who happens to be
Jewish?
Enter into your inner self and behold the eye of the soul. Gaze upon your
original face before you were even born. Shocked? Remember, this was before

Be patient and achieve all things.
Be impatient and achieve all things faster.
To Find the Buddha, look within. Deep inside you are ten thousand flowers.

Each blossom has ten thousand petals.

But lo' the snare is broke, the captive's freed,
By faith on all the hostile powers we tread,
And crush through Jesus' strength the Serpent's head.
Jesus hath cast the cursed Accuser down,
Hath rooted up the tares by Satan sown:
All nature bows to His benign command,
And two are one in His almighty hand.
One in His hand, O may we still remain,
Fast bound with love's indissoluble chain;
(That adamant which time and death defies,
That golden chain which draws us to the skies!)
His love the tie that binds us to His throne,
His love the bond that perfects us in one,
His only love constrains our hearts t' agree,
And gives the rivet of Eternity.

Given, not lent,
And not withdrawn, once sent,
This Infant of mankind, this One,
Is still the little welcome Son.
New every year,
New-born and newly dear,
He comes with tidings and a song,
The ages long, the ages long.
Even as the cold
Keen winter grows not old,
As childhood is so fresh, foreseen,
And spring in the familiar green.
Sudden as sweet
Come the expected feet.
All joy is young, and new all art,
And He, too, whom we have by heart.

Father eternal, ruler of creation,
Spirit of life, which moved ere form was made
Through the thick darkness covering every nation
Light to man's blindness, O be Thou our aid.
Races and peoples, lo, we stand divided,
And, sharing not our griefs, no joy can share;
By wars and tumults love is mocked, derided
His conquering cross no kingdom wills to bear.
Envious of heart, blind-eyed, with tongues confounded,
Nation by nation still goes unforgiven,
In wrath and fear, by jealousies surrounded,
Building proud towers which shall not reach to heaven.
Lust of possession worketh desolations;
There is no meekness in the sons of earth;
Led by no star, the rulers of the nations
Still fail to bring us to the blissful birth:
How shall we love Thee, holy hidden Being,
If we love not the world which Thou hast made?
O give us brother-love for better seeing
Thy Word made flesh, and in a manger laid.

For the New Year:
Saint Patrick's Breastplate
I bind myself to-day
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.
I bind this day to me for ever
By pow'r of faith, Christ's Incarnation;
His baptism in Jordan river;
His death on Cross for my salvation;
His bursting from the spicčd tomb;
His riding up the heav'nly way;
His coming at the day of doom;
I bind unto myself today.
I bind unto myself today
The virtues of the star-lit heaven,
The glorious sun's life-giving ray,
The whiteness of the moon at even,
The flashing of the lightning free,
The whirling wind's tempestous shocks,
The stable earth, the deep salt sea,
Around the old eternal rocks.
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One, and One in Three.
Of Whom all nature hath creation:
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.

An Urgent Message from Heartland Security:
Symptoms of Inner Peace...
Be on the lookout for symptoms of inner peace. The hearts of a great many have already been exposed to inner peace and it is possible that people everywhere could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of pain and conflict in the world. There is no known government vaccine available.
Some signs and symptoms of inner peace:
A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experiences.
An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.
A loss of interest in judging other people.
A loss of interest in judging self.
A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.
A loss of interest in conflict and negativity.
A loss of the ability to constantly worry. (This is a very serious symptom.)
Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation and gratitude.
Contented feeling of contentment and connectedness with others and nature.
Frequent attacks of smiling and laughing.
A tingling feeling at the top of your head extending into your heart.
An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.
An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as a joyous urge to extend it.
WARNING:
If you have some or all of the above symptoms, please be advised that your condition of inner peace may be so far advanced as to not be curable. The examples listed are only a few of the reported symptoms, but may be very similar in nature. If you are exposed to anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms, remain exposed only at your own risk.

From "Our Daily Bread" Thought of the Day for:
January 31, 2004
Time Flies
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. —Psalm 90:12
Many metaphors are used in literature to describe life's brevity. It is a dream, a swift runner, a mist, a puff of smoke, a shadow, a gesture in the air, a sentence written in the sand, a bird flying in one window of a house and out another. Another symbolic description was suggested by a friend of mine who said that the short dash between the dates of birth and death on tombstones represents the brief span of one's life.
When we were children, time loitered. But as we get closer to the end of our lives, time moves with increasing swiftness, like water swirling down a drain. In childhood we measured our age in small increments. "I'm 6 1/2," we would say, for it seemed to take so long to get older. Now we have no time for such childishness. Who claims to be 60 1/2?
It's good to ponder the brevity of life now and then. Life is too short to treat it carelessly. In Psalm 90, after describing the shortness of life, Moses prayed, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (v.12).
To make the most of our earthly existence, we must lose ourselves in the will of God (1 Peter 4:2). This we can do even when time is running out. It's never too late to give ourselves totally to God. —David Roper
Lord, help us to redeem the time
You give us every day—
To take each opportunity
To follow and obey. —Sper
Don't just count your days, make your days count.

Why does she do this? i thought. she speaks of love and she uses the word and i wonder if she knows love. i wonder if she knows it when she says it. when she writes it. when she thinks it. oh yes. you wonder right now. you wonder if i know when i say-speak-think-talk-type-write. I do. but i won't defend that to you. She. Her. Does she? Would she defend that to me? and for the prosecution?
Who would judge? the jury, my peers, would surely side with me. the judge, some god, some book or dictionary. Some invalid knowledge source. and do we--any of us-- know love? do any of us use it in it's context, in it's environment, in it's entirety?
===
ironic that the concept of Big Brother disgusts and infuriates us while the concept of Holy Father brings forth some feeling of safety and security. i'd rather have the Brother to suggest to me things that he has seen and that i understand. to walk with me and discuss with me. to understand and empathize with me--than have the Father to constrain and discipline, to control and command, to impress upon me his will and intentions.
George Bush is God. why don't we bow down and smile? God is Caesar! The one who would be King. why do we not kill him?

"We must teach ourselves how to live. I capitalized ‘Reader’ in the beginning of this text because the Reader is the only god in this scripture. Nay, I will not tell you how to think. I will not tell you what to do with your life. And I will not tell you that you can think and do what you want because the simple fact is that you can not. They would have you believe that you can do what you want, but they will give you a list of punishments and rewards for doing what they would have you do. I will give you nothing. I will withhold from you nothing. The world is yours and I cannot give or take it away."
intrigued? offended? i hope so.
if you are open-minded, if you are just and clean of heart and mind then you see here the seeds of sense and knowledge. What holds you back? Since the eigth century Christians have celebrated All Saints' Day on November 1 to celebrate the known and unknown Christian Saints. Saints are not just those whom the Church has canonized, but all members of that "cloud of witnesses" who proclaim Jesus as Lord - including you and me!
Almost as old as the celebration of All Saints' Day is the tradition associated with All Hallow's Eve. ("Hallows" mean "saints," both mean "holy ones." As in "Hallowed be thy name.") So, Halloween means "the evening before All Holy Ones' Day." Today we call that festival Halloween and we have many secular ways of recognizing it. However, it's important to remember that its celebration has a long, positive history in the Church.
What sort of history is that? Like many of our liturgical festivals (Christmas and Easter included), All Saints' Day and All Hallow's Eve have some connection to pagan festivals. People of many races and cultures have remembered their dead and have had superstitions about death itself. Christians remembered death itself on All Hallow's Eve and celebrated Christ's victory over death. During the Middle Ages, Christians would gather in Churches for worship and they would remember the saints' victories over evil. Likewise they would put on little displays showing Jesus' victory of Satan, often using unusual masks and costumes to act out the story.
Thus, the festivities on All Hallow's Eve was the Christian's way of laughing at death and evil, something we can do in certain hope of Christ's victory over the powers of darkness. The Church for centuries, however, has seen All Hallow's Eve not as a glorification of evil, but as a chance to affirm eternal life in the face of the death of our mortal bodies.

The Gary Olsen of Masterpath is a scam artist. I went to school with him growing up and he was in trouble all the time. He was in jail for stealig cars when he was in high school and he has a terrible temper. He was on the front of our local paper in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota paper for some really big trouble with a girl friend's son who he was abusing. Not sexually but by not letting him sleep in his own house. The school bus driver reported this poor kid always getting out of an old car when he was picked up in the morning and when it was investigated, Gary was in big trouble. He always said he would get on TV and make a lot of money. Now he is taking your money ted and you are a real fool. Gary is now a millionaire like he always wanted to be.
